Know who takes responsibility
Calgary's contractor permit guidance requires applicants to hold an Alberta Master Electrician Certificate, a City business licence and City Qualified Trade registration. Resolve the contractor and responsible professional before accepting a proposal.
- Who holds the permit?
- Which professional is responsible for this project?
Compare the project, not only the equipment
Ask for the proposed equipment, load assessment, circuits, routing, access, finishing and exclusions. For an EV charger or capacity change, ask how the design fits the existing service and future loads. Have the qualified contractor explain the alternatives in writing.
- What assessment supports this equipment and capacity?
- Are utility coordination and finishing included?
- What could trigger an additional charge?
Keep the completion record
Agree on who books inspections, corrects deficiencies and provides the final documents. Keep the permit reference, equipment details, invoice and warranty together for future service or a sale.
- Who closes the permit and confirms approval?
- What labour and equipment warranties apply separately?
